I stayed here during my 2023 John O’Groats to Lands End ride, when I was accompanied by my wife and 13 year old son, who were acting as support crew.
The Urrard B&B is a private guest house with truly family feel. It is located in the town just along from the station on a sometimes busy one way system. It was easy enough for my wife and son to find with Google. They passed a Lidl on the way in which proved handy to top up supplies. For me, well I just followed the pink line on the Garmin and rolled up outside the door. The last couple of miles were all downhill, so very welcome.
Alison is a very welcoming and gracious host who helped us to feel at home very quickly.
To accommodate the three of us comfortably, we stayed in a double ensuite room and a single room with a private bathroom across the hallway. Both rooms were incredibly warm and cosy. The bathroom had a shower only with a heated towel rail which came in useful to dry wet gear.
There were so many thoughtful touches in the room – coffee machine, make up remover, ear plugs, toiletries, whiskey tot on arrival along with homemade crispy bars to accompany a plentiful supply of hot drinks.
There is free parking available down a private gravelled lane alongside their neighbour’s house. Roy’s bike was stored under a covered gazebo in garden with a washing ling to hang wet clothes to dry (if there is warm dry weather). There was independent access to collect it in the morning.
No evening meal is provided but there is a good choice of restaurants or takeaways within walking distance – Indian or Thai.
Breakfast is served in a communal dining room with a selection of cereals and juice. Alison provides a plentiful, delicious freshly cooked breakfast or porridge which you pre order the night before.
