I stayed at the Norseman Hotel at the end of my 8th and final day of my Lands End to John O’Groats cycle in February 2019. It is ideally located for anyone who wishes to catch the early train back home, being a short distance from the station. Of course it means an 18 miles cycle back down from John O’Groats but perhaps it is best to do that whilst you are on a high, rather than stupidly early the next day.
The hotel is very efficiently run and the receptionist quickly had me booked in and then showed me where I could securely store my bicycle. The room was clean and tidy and provided everything that I need to clean up, sort out my kit and relax.
A big boon for me, having not had any hot food for over three days, was the hotel restaurant. By way of congratulating myself I had a well deserved pint and a 12oz steak, cooked medium rare to perfection. There seemed to be several tables of local people eating in the restaurant who knew the waiting staff by name, which is always a good sign. In fact all of the staff were extremely courteous and polite, despite me walking around in cycling lycra and socks.
The room was warm, quiet and comfortable and I slept well (until woken at 5:15 by my alarm). I was able to exit the hotel before 6am on my own without having to disturb anybody.
