My host, Jan, was very welcoming and seemed to understand the needs of the cyclist after a long day – I was quickly shown where to install my bike and shown to my room with much chat but not impinging my need for ‘collapse’ time.
The room was very well presented with a magnificent view over the pond. It was very spacious and comfortable. Every attention to detail was made and there was plenty of hot water to wash the dirt and the aches of the day down the plughole. The property was very quiet and peaceful and I slept long and deep (which I would come to regret 12 hours later when making slow progress along an overgrown canal tow path in the dark desperate to reach Stafford).
Breakfast was a magnificent affair. Lots of muesli, toast, juice and coffee with a sumptuous full English to follow. I ate too much.
